ALWAYS lift your tree by its amethyst base. NEVER lift nor grab the tree by its branches. They can crack under the weight of the tree.
Remove the tree from its box CAREFULLY and place it on a surface that won't get scratched by the bottom of the base. Slowly remove the wrapping material.
Furniture pads were provided with our larger trees. Add those to the bottom to prevent scratching of furniture.
"Fluff Up" the wire branches. How? Bend the wire branches, some up, some down as well as side to side, spreading them apart, just don't untwist the wires. Your goal is to make the tree look as full & balanced as possible.
Aim the actual gemstones so their glued sides are facing down or towards the center of the tree and the gems are facing outwards or towards you.
If by chance a gemstone has fallen off of a branch during shipping, you can easily glue it back with Hot Glue or Super Glue.
The base of our trees are natural Brazilian Amethyst Clusters and the trees we sell are all unique due to their natural differences and handmade tree designs. The bases can vary in overall sizes (small to large), shapes (round to square), crystal points (small to large) and colors (light lavender/white to dark purple).
This means your tree is truly unique. Enjoy!

As we go about our daily routines, we are constantly surrounded by the spiritual weight of the problems plaguing our lives. Having an amethyst handy will mean you have a weapon to fend off the negative emotions that so easily can cling to the soul.

The strength of the amethyst crystal is most popularly known for its effect on our Crown chakra. This chakra is connected to our higher consciousness, mind, and wisdom. Although many people advise that you align your other chakras before you work on your crown, you can use the amethyst to enhance your crown chakra whenever you need it.
For example, if you’re feeling depressed, it’s okay to use the amethyst to connect with your inner self to rid yourself of any negative energy you might’ve picked up along your day.
Amethyst provides numerous mental benefits. Find out how the amethyst can help improve your mental health.
We must heal from many things, including past traumas, negative thoughts, and unhealthy behaviors that stop us from being the person we want to be.

This crystal packs a powerful punch when it comes to reducing your stress levels. Left unchecked, toxic stress that we acquire from work, the news, and others around us can cause a multitude of physical ailments such as headaches and stomach cramps. With an amethyst in hand, you may find that those feelings subside with the calming presence of the popular gemstone. Whenever you feel bogged down by stress, simply take your amethyst crystal and feel the immediate relief.
To build a healthy mind and spirit, we must also be in good physical shape. This involves more than exercise or eating healthy foods, although they’re equally as important. We must truly take care of our physical bodies as much as we care for our chakras.
With the creation and advancement of technology, putting screens in our faces constantly throughout the day, our natural sleep cycles have been drastically altered. Experiencing insomnia, or the lack of ability to sleep at night, may feel like a hopeless situation.
To help with sleep, amethyst can be placed in your bedroom near your bed to capitalize on its calming aura and help lull yourself to a peaceful rest, ensuring you’re refreshed and focused when you awaken.

As you go through your day, you must check in with yourself often. How do you feel? Are you motivated, exhausted, relaxed? We may think we know what we’re thinking, but we don’t until we bring awareness to our thoughts and emotions.
Ask yourself questions that will help you better understand yourself and get in tune with your spiritual side.
Think about how you want your day to go; visualize what you want and imagine how you’d feel when you get it. Hoping to buy a new car? Think about the steering wheel: how does it feel under your hands? What color is your car? How will you feel when you finally start driving in your new car? Hold onto that feeling as if the car is already yours.
The power of visualization and experiencing the emotion as if you already have what you want is powerful. You’re telling the universe what you want, so prepare to receive it!

]]>Depending on your definition of “gemstone,” you can estimate that there are about 200 varieties of gems. They’re essentially the hardest, most beautiful forms of minerals—and there are thousands of those. Every gem looks different because all gems are formed differently. Until we can journey to the center of the Earth and see that process for ourselves, an element of mystery about the origins of gemstones will remain. But an overview of how gems are created can help you realize just how incredible these treasures are.
So how are gemstones formed? You should know up front that:
Most minerals began, at minimum, thousands of years ago. It may feel like we’re on solid ground, but the Earth is constantly churning on the inside. Enormous tectonic plates are crashing into each other. Molten rock—yes, Dr. Evil, magma—is bubbling beneath our feet. Violent, clashing forces interact with each other to ultimately produce the incredible gems we enjoy today.
Chemicals in the magma began to take shape as crystals, with the right combination of these factors:
If you’ve ever watched rock candy form or if you’re familiar with how water turns into snowflakes, those can give you visuals of what it takes to begin this process.
Crystals are identified by highly ordered, repeating patterns, but as they’re developing, all kinds of tumultuous forces buffet them around. Temperatures fluctuate dramatically. New elements are introduced. The roiling magma breaks off bits of the Earth’s crust and creates cavities up to 25 miles deep—ideal environments for gem formation. Chemical-rich fluids escape from the magma and flow in and out of the cavities, giving the crystals enough space to grow. The pressure is high. Time passes.
How do gemstones that were born miles and miles inside the Earth make it to the surface? One shortcut is through a volcano. Gas can build up under the magma and push it through vents in the surface. Once it erupts into the air, the magma is considered lava. Its mineral-rich deposits build up over centuries with all kinds of crystals and stones inside. Ancient inactive volcano sites can become profitable mines when rare gems are discovered.
There’s actually a variety of processes that form gemstones, and if you’re seated next to a geologist at a dinner party, you might hear about many of them. Again: it’s complicated. Minerals can be formed, destroyed, and recreated over and over until they’re finally crafted into gemstone trees. These are a few methods:
When a crystal forms but is rushed toward the surface of the Earth, it can cool inside and throughout rocks. That’s how you can find moonstones, garnets, zircons, and even some rubies and sapphires.
Some crystals grow on the bases of other minerals, but some are actually created in gas bubbles. These include quartz, garnet, topaz, and spinel.
Magma can move with so much force that it can bully its way right into existing rock formations. The rocks melt and recrystallize into stones such as garnet, corundum, spinel, and lapis lazuli.
Things can get violent on the Earth’s surface, too. Continental plates clash and result in mountains. Through millions of years, these land masses create intense heat and pressure, which in turn create unique gemstones such as East African tsavorite. Tanzanite is named after Tanzania, the only country in which it’s found.
Some gemstones are so rare, clear, and gorgeously colored that they become jewelry that’s passed down for centuries. Some of these minerals travel from the center of the Earth, miles and miles to the surface, through heat and time and pressure, and become… rocks.
In between those extremes is a countless number of exquisite gemstones that are just now becoming popularly celebrated for their unique qualities. Brazilian gemstones in particular are so glorious that they’re often used in décor or to energize an atmosphere. This is how a few of our favorites come to us:
These rich purple crystals are part of the quartz family. Brazil is blessed to have so many of these gems, which form inside bubbles of lava. Water flows in and out of these cavities, with substances such as iron turning the quartz a distinctive violet hue.
Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul region is home to citrine deposits; citrine is closely related to amethyst. In some cases, the citrine was originally an amethyst or smoky quartz that was transformed by heat. Like amethysts, citrine is special in that it forms inside geodes—ho-hum–looking rocks that, when cracked open, reveal dazzling caves of crystals.
These minerals are amazing additions to homes because they vary so much in color, pattern, and size. They’re usually polished as slices that can show off the alternating bands of quartz and chalcedony. They grow on host rocks inside lava cavities, and their layers make them difficult to date. Agate slices are striking as one-of-a-kind tabletops or art displays.
At Brazil Gems, we specialize in ethically mined stones that independent local artists handcraft into sparkling masterpieces. We offer a large variety of gems that you can buy wholesale; we also offer gorgeous items such as our bonsai-inspired gemstone trees. ]]>First things first: is that rock even a geode? Nodules and geodes are often confused since their contents can be so similar. The key difference you’ll want to look out for is that geodes have a hollow cavity within the rock where all of the crystals are. If it’s a geode, you’ll see empty space and crystals. Nodules, on the other hand, contain tightly packed mineral crystals. They’re so tightly packed, in fact, that there is no open space within the rock whatsoever.
Now that you’re sure it’s a geode, you’ll want to look at the color and clarity of the crystals. The more intensely purple an amethyst geode is, the more valuable it is. Color saturation is one of the most significant factors in determining a geode’s worth.
Keep in mind the precision of the crystals, too. Is it cloudy within the geode, or can you see through them clearly and make out small points and flecks? Geode clarity can vastly increase or decrease a geode’s value.
This one is pretty simple: if your geode is larger, it’s more valuable. Golf-ball-sized geodes can be worth a few dollars, while massive, person-sized geodes can be worth tens of thousands of dollars.
The size of the geode itself is not the only thing to look out for, though. Crystal point sizes can factor in, too. Geodes with more prominent crystal points are rarer than those with hundreds of smaller points, so bigger is better in more ways than one!
A geode’s weight can be deceiving. A heavy geode might imply a higher value, but how many crystals are packed into that space? When a retailer sells a geode, they first add concrete to the walls and base to allow the geode to stand sturdily.
Two geodes could be the same weight, but one might have much more concrete. To get the most value, look for geodes that are heavier with less concrete. That means the extra weight comes from the geode itself.
Now that you know the variables that determine geode value, put your knowledge to the test with our amethyst cathedral geodes. Spend some time analyzing the clarity in the crystals as well as the point sizes, and you’ll be an expert geode evaluator in no time!
]]>As consumers get more educated about gemstones beyond diamonds, rubies, and emeralds, they’re choosing to wear jewelry that’s just as beautiful—without the inflated price tag. In fact, gemologists no longer classify any gemstones as “semiprecious.” They’re all incredible examples of what the Earth can produce with extreme pressure, a volcano, and the miracle of nature. Now, with market websites such as Etsy, selling original pieces to a limitless audience has never been easier. Independent jewelry designers are using wholesale gemstones from Brazil to make:
One of the biggest décor trends is incorporating more natural elements in our homes. This can mean anything from live greenery to botanical prints, but one of the most exciting developments is the use of gemstones. It’s hard to imagine a more striking piece of art than an amethyst geode on display or a chandelier carefully crafted so that the light refracts through colored stones. Even a simple arrangement of gemstones on an end table is a unique touch to personalize a room. Some manufacturers are even using gems to make flooring in the form of agate or tumbled stone tiles.
Gemstones have been associated with energies and powers throughout history. More people are discovering that certain stones and rocks affect their luck, health, strengths, and weaknesses. They’re investing in wholesale natural gemstones for different uses, such as practicing feng shui in their homes, selling talismans, and spreading these energies with gifts. For them, these gems have additional value in their meanings and emotional significance. For instance:
No matter what you want to use your wholesale gems for, you’ll find that the highest quality and most spectacular colors often come from Brazil. ]]>When a diamond is 186 carats, it tends to forcibly change hands quite a bit. The Koh-i-Noor, which means “Mountain of Light,” existed mainly as a spoil of war between 1100 and 1850. That’s when it wound up in England in the possession of Queen Victoria. It seems as though she owned every epic jewel at one point, and the world’s pillagers didn’t dare challenge her. The Koh-i-Noor reportedly arrived with a written curse that said, “He who owns this diamond will own the world, but will also know all its misfortunes. Only God or Woman can wear it with impunity.” Sure enough, the gem has been worn only in the crown of queens: Queen Alexandra, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, and the Queen Mother.
England’s Crown Jewels are spectacular across the board, but at least one has been proven to be a kind of imposter. The 361-carat, unfaceted stone was discovered in 1612 and named after the founder of the Timurid Empire. The names of several royal owners are inscribed on the surface. In the 1840s, during Britain’s annexation of India, the ruby was presented to Queen Victoria. But in 1851, gemologists ruled that it wasn’t actually a ruby—it was a spinel. Rubies and spinels look nearly identical, and have similar chemical makeups and hardness. But the monarchy didn’t mind, and the “ruby” remains as the center stone of a diamond necklace.
This whopping, 104-carat oval-cut sapphire is rumored to have belonged to the first king of Scotland, Alexander II. It was passed down through various royals, eventually coming into the possession of King George III of England. When his granddaughter, Queen Victoria, was coronated in 1837, the sapphire was at the front and center of the crown. But the sapphire’s undisputed reign ended in 1909, when it had to move to the back of the crown to make way for the Cullinan II diamond.
Gem enthusiast J.P. Morgan wanted to show off an impressive collection at the Paris Exposition of 1900. That’s where the world first caught a glimpse of the golf-ball-sized, 563-carat star sapphire that’s around two billion years old. It was donated to the American Museum of Natural History and protected by an alarm. But one night in 1964, thieves happened to break in when the alarm’s battery was dead. They made away with more than $400,000 in gems, but were arrested within days. One member of the crew bargained for a lighter sentence by telling the authorities where they could find the loot—in a Miami bus terminal locker.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest uncut black opal was found while Halley’s Comet passed overhead. Five Australian miners found it in 1986 at a popular site called Lunatic Hill in New South Wales, Australia. Opals loom large in Aboriginal mythology. The story goes that the Creator descended to earth on a rainbow to share a message of peace. When his foot touched the ground, the stones turned to opals, and started sparkling with every color imaginable.
The origins of the Black Orlov are murky. It’s said that a monk stole it from the eye of a Brahma statue in India, thus cursing the gem forever. Maybe, maybe not. It certainly has not been associated with good luck. In 1932, a dealer bought the dark gray, 67.5-carat stone and soon thereafter, jumped from a New York City skyscraper. Russian princess Leonilla Bariatinskaia obtained the gem, but fell to her death from a building in Rome in 1947. The diamond passed to another Russian princess, Nadia Vyegin-Orlov—who also later fell to her death from a building in Rome.
Brazil is home to an enormous array of sparkling native gems, particularly amethysts. But one of its aquamarines broke global records for its size. In the Minas Gerais mining region at Pedra Azul, three independent prospectors uncovered the enormous gem in the late 1980s. It was almost three feet long and 100 pounds. Unfortunately, they dropped it and it split into three pieces. Rather than carve up the largest chunk into smaller jewels, a German gem cutter spent six months crafting it into a breathtaking obelisk that looks like it’s glowing from within. It was named Dom Pedro after the first two emperors of Brazil and donated to the Smithsonian.
Richard Burton could have saved himself quite a lot of money if he hadn’t insulted wife Elizabeth Taylor by telling her she had masculine hands. Incensed, she insisted that he get her a consolation prize that would take the focus off her hands. So, at an auction, Burton splurged on this flawless, 70-carat diamond for $1.1 million, and spent another $80,000 on its setting. Taylor wore it to the Academy Awards and to Princess Grace of Monaco’s 40th birthday party. But after divorcing Burton (the second time), she sold the jewel. Perhaps no one in the world loved gems as much as Elizabeth Taylor, or wore them so well. But she always insisted that no one could ever truly own them; they just served as guardians of the jewels for a little while.

]]>Many people admire this member of the quartz family for its bands of color, which are particularly striking on a large scale in agate crystal slices. It was named after Sicily’s Achates River during the 4th century BC, and you can find it in a rainbow of hues: browns, blues, oranges, pinks, and more. From the beginning, people have valued it for its grounding spiritual energy as well as its beauty.
Strength, protection, creativity, prosperity
This luminescent blue mineral is fascinating to see in its rough crystalline form, emerging from chunks of quartz. In general, people considered it to be a calming stone that can dissolve emotional or spiritual confusion.
Loyalty, honesty, tranquility
Mostly found in rocks and soils, hematite is an iron oxide crystal that polishes up with a metallic luster. It appears black, gray, silver, and sometimes reddish-brown. People considered it to be a shield against negative energy.
Willpower, clarity, courage
Also called the Poet’s Stone, this mineral appears in rich, royal blues and purples that can range from opaque to transparent. Sometimes, it’s dotted with white calcite. People believe sodalite can help cleanse the spirit of fear and guilt, opening you up to truly thrive.
Wisdom, harmony, confidence
These golden stones are often combinations of brown, orange, red, and black swirls and stripes. The earthy tones bring to mind strong roots that can provide balance and strength when needed. People have used tiger’s eyes as talismans to ward off the “evil eye” since the earliest days of human civilization.
Focus, prosperity, protection
This reddish stone is a member of the chalcedony family and gets its color from iron. In ancient times, women believed orange carnelian could boost fertility, while men wore red carnelian around their necks for battle. Above all, it’s a mineral with invigorating energy.
Concentration, balance, longevity
You don’t have to know the name of a crystal to appreciate a natural work of art. Let this guide to gems you’ve never heard of before pique your interest in Brazil Gems’ incredible artisan-crafted pieces. From small geodes to large cathedrals, you can see the dazzling wonders of the earth up close for yourself.
]]>If you can keep the dust from building up on your crystals, taking care of them will be a lot easier. But normal dusting cloths and dusters have drawbacks. They can create static on your gemstones, which attracts more dust. Worse, they can leave fibers behind. The best thing to use is one of those small microfiber cloths you clean your glasses with. You don’t need soap—these cloths are gentle, and they’ll remove both dust and fingerprints. They leave a nice, polished finish.
If you’re trying to keep a jagged cluster of gemstones clean, keep a very soft brush at the ready. A good-quality makeup or shaving brush works well if you apply it very lightly. You can also try a compressed air blast with a small attachment, but be sure to test it so that it doesn’t damage any of the points. You can use a damp cloth to clean gemstones, but consult the Mohs Scale of hardness before you do. If the stone’s hardness rating is below a 6, keep it dry.
If your item is hard enough to withstand water, make sure it’s distilled. That will keep your crystal free of calcium deposits. You might hear recommendations about mixing in other cleaning products, but unless you’re an expert, don’t risk it. Gemstones have different chemical makeups, and they might surprise you with their reactions. When the grime is stubborn, you can run most crystals under cool water that doesn’t have a strong flow. If you need to use a soft toothbrush, proceed gently. When you have a large piece such as an amethyst cathedral, you can take it outside and use a water hose with low pressure.
Brazil Gems has a large variety of artisan-crafted crystal pieces of all sizes and shapes. We have clusters, geodes, gemstone trees, and more, and they require specific care instructions. When you find something you love, ask us how to clean and care for the gemstones.
We have other suggestions, too. You can protect an amethyst table by adding a glass top, for instance, or keep your crystals in a curio case that keeps dust out. Extend the life of your treasures and keep them looking spectacular.
]]>A geode is a hollow rock with a layer of inward-pointing crystals on the inside. They’re naturally occurring, created by forces like water, minerals, pressure, and changing temperatures. You might have seen geodes in textbooks, in gift shops, or even in museums. There’s no way to determine exactly what you’ll find inside a geode from its dull exterior, making it one of the true surprises of nature.
The process began about 160 million years ago. As the Atlantic Ocean opened to split Africa and South America, the shifting tectonic plates triggered one of the world’s most significant volcanic events. Igneous rock flowed out of the rift, layering lava thousands of feet thick. It resulted in gas bubbles and lava tubes that hardened into cavities.
Then water entered the equation. Silica-rich water penetrated the cavities and ran through them, leaving behind the start of crystalline growth. The tiny crystals clung to the inner walls of the bubble. Thousands of years passed, then millions. Slowly, layers formed inside. First came agate, and then layers of quartz. Rock crystal grew larger with jagged points. Still buried deep inside the earth, radioactive minerals in the surround basalts began to decay. The geodes were irradiated, producing color centers in the quartz that transformed into colorful crystals like amethysts.
There are several places in the world where you can find geodes, although the quality of them can vary. Anywhere volcanic ash has helped form the landscape, you can find large deposits of limestone that are likely prime locations to hunt for geodes. Among the homes of geodes:
But the truly breathtaking geodes—the ones that you gawk at, and then take a selfie with—come from Brazil. In southeast Brazil, almost 400,000 square miles make up the Serra Geral Formation, a dramatic after-effect of those prehistoric flood basalts. That’s where the most significant geode deposit ever was discovered, located in the amethyst amygdule basalts of the Rio Grande do Sul region, which is abundantly rich with gems.
Geodes can be as small as baseballs or as large as 15 feet long. The challenge is in removing them intact from the surrounding rock. Every geode is one-of-a-kind, varying in size, color, shape, and crystal formation. Among the kinds of geodes you can buy are:
Depending on their intended use, geodes might be carefully sawn and polished to display their impressive crystal structure. A “cathedral” is usually weighted with a base, so it can be displayed upright. A polished slice of a geode could either be used as a piece of art on a stand, or used horizontally with protective glass on top as a masterpiece of a coffee table.
Many of the Brazilian geodes are also heated in kilns to intensify their natural colors. It’s not considered an “artificial” treatment because the heat is just mimicking a natural process. Geo-thermal heat did the same thing to the geodes before interruption; heat doesn’t change the molecular structure of the geode.
Many collectors think of geodes are ancient art—they are to be admired. You’ll see them on display in homes, at work as book ends, or on desktops as paperweights.
Some lucky kids receive geode kits as gifts or in school. They get to break open their own small geode with a hammer, and many go on to develop a passion for rock collecting. It’s a rewarding way to learn about what nature can do. Adults who love a good reveal enjoy the kits, too. If you want a more professional finish, you can open the geode more evenly with a rock saw.
So many people believe in the power of gems that, increasingly, geodes are placed in home to improve the energy of its surroundings.
The short answer? When you see a geode that stops you in your tracks—online or in person—that is the geode for you. Because it’s unique, it might not be available if you wait to purchase it. But if you’d like to take a more objective approach to buying a geode, you can take these qualities into consideration:
After learning everything you’ve ever wanted to know about geodes, it’s time to get your own. At Brazil Gems, we select only the highest quality geodes for our inventory. See for yourself on our website, where we show our decorative geode hearts and functional geode tables; you can either start small or go big. Our citrine and amethyst cathedrals for sale represent the absolute best of Brazil—and Brazilian gems represent the best in the world.
]]>Brazil Gems’ gemstone trees are inspired by bonsai trees. Cultivating the trees is an ancient art form in Japan, embodying the idea of “wabi-sabi,” which celebrates imperfect beauty. The gemstone versions are a colorful homage to this tradition that eliminates the need to tend to them. They’re all radiance with no maintenance.
There’s an ancient tale that explains the origin of crystal trees. A heavenly fairy fell in love with a village commoner who had no money. The fairy conjured a magic tree. When shaken, coins fell from it—enough for the couple to live on, as well as others in the community.
Today, gemstone trees also are favorite “cures” for homes that use feng shui to bring harmony to their surroundings. In addition to practices like rearranging furniture, feng shui can be optimized by adding crystals with specific associations to different areas in your home. For instance,
Even if you’re not interested in the spiritual meanings of crystals, owning a gemstone tree is an exceptional element for interior design. Having a Brazil Gems original in your home says things about you, such as:
At Brazil Gems, these exquisite creations are handmade by artisans in Brazil. Their bases are formed of amethysts clusters that are known as “healing” gems. The “leaves” of each tree are made from a variety of gemstones, including:
Brazil Gems offers mixed-gem versions, too. Whatever the meaning of gemstone trees is for you, you’ll find a selection of one-of-a-kind masterpieces in different sizes on our website. Browse these pages or contact us if you’d like more information.
]]>The idea of birthstones evolved out of the Old Testament’s description of a bejeweled breastplate worn by the high priest of the Israelites in the Book of Exodus. It had 12 different gems on it to symbolize 12 tribes, and the priests consulted the stones to determine God’s will for people’s fates. The powerful stones were chosen for their color, not their chemical makeup, which explains why some birthstones have changed since then. Translations are difficult, but scholars believe that the original stones were:
A 5th-century Hindu text also speaks of a tradition of stones with mystical powers that represent a person’s birth month. The Ratna Pariksha details the relationships between gemstones and celestial bodies, deities, and the days of the week. In their culture, jewelry featured nine gemstones associated with celestial forces, surrounding a bright red stone—a ruby or spinel. They believed the wearers were granted cosmic harmony. Of course, they became attention-getting symbols of status and wealth too. Astrologers would further recommend individual stones to harness even greater power.
As time passed, historians began to see connections among the 12 stones of “Aaron’s breastplate,” the 12 months of the year, the 12 apostles, and the 12 zodiac signs. It became fashionable to collect all the stones and wear them at once. By the 8th century, the custom changed to wearing one gem each month for heightened powers and protection. People didn’t begin wearing the gem associated with their birth month until the 16th century, although it’s not clear if the tradition started in Germany or Poland.
The list of birthstones you’re probably familiar with was created in 1912 when the United States’ National Association of Jewelers came together for a consensus on the gem for each month. They took into account the long history of different beliefs, but they also considered practical concerns. Jewelers wanted to ensure that the gemstones would be available in large quantities to sell. In 1952, the Jewelry Industry Council of America added some alternate gems to the list—and it keeps evolving. As recently as 2016, spinel was named to the month of August. The United Kingdom has its own “official,” mostly similar list.
As buyers found ways to incorporate gems into their lives beyond jewelry—as good luck pieces, ceremonial stones, and decor—they began to embrace alternative birthstones as well. The moral here? If there’s a gem you want to call your birthstone, you can probably find a way to justify it. These lists are based on different systems, such as:
Garnet
This is the only birthstone that hasn’t changed since at least the 15th century. The word “garnet” derives from a term for “seed” because it resembles a pomegranate seed.
Amethyst
In the past, February has also been associated with pearls and hyacinths (red, orange, and yellow forms of zircon). The popularity of green amethysts is growing for jewelry.
Aquamarine
For a few centuries, bloodstone was also the March birthstone. Today, the red stone
jasper is also a March gemstone. The cool, clear blue of aquamarine invokes the sea and is believed to have healing properties.
Diamond
Anyone born in April lucked out with one of the most precious gems on earth, although the United Kingdom has standardized less expensive rock crystal as an alternative.
Emerald
It’s hard to top an emerald, but the U.K. has named chrysoprase as another May birthstone. Chrysoprase has a similar green tone with a more opaque, glowing effect.
Pearl
June has had several birthstones over the centuries, only to end up with something not technically a stone. It’s been associated with cat’s eye, turquoise, and agate. Today, its official stones include alexandrite and moonstone.
Ruby
Rubies exude strength, passion, and vibrancy of life. It’s resilient, too, ranking on the Mohs scale as just slightly less hard than diamonds. Or you might prefer ruby’s co-birthstone, carnelian, as an earthier red alternative. Turquoise and onyx were formerly linked with July, too.
Peridot
You can pronounce this apple-green gem “per-i-DOE” or “per-i-DOT,” or you could just try one of August’s alternate birthstones, spinel or sardonyx. You can find spinel in a variety of colors, with red and pink as the most valuable. Sardonyx is a kind of agate that can be dyed for beautiful banding.
Sapphire
Sapphires actually come in several colors classified as “fancy,” not just blue: white, pink, yellow, green, orange, purple, and black. If it’s the blue you love, you might prefer September’s alternate gemstone, lapis lazuli.
Opal
October’s birthstone has several variations; you’ll find the iridescent play of color in milky-white opals, black opals, blue-green opals, and orange fire opals. An alternate for the month: tourmaline.
Topaz
This is one of the most flexible birthstones since topaz comes in so many colors. Known as “the lucky stone,” Cleopatra believed it cured toothaches and insomnia. Or you can embrace its co-stone, citrine, which has honey and amber tones.
Tanzanite, turquoise, and zircon
The main requirement for a December birthstone seems to be that it be blue. Tanzanite, with its distinctive blue-violet hue, was added in 2002 as it became more commercially available. In past centuries, even lapis lazuli was in the mix.
Do you feel a connection to your birthstone? Any gem is meaningful if it resonates with you. The history of gemstones as birthstones shows how beliefs—and “official” designations—change. But if your birthstone was the beginning of a passion for gemstones, you’ll love Brazil Gems’ selection of unique geodes, gifts, display pieces, and Brazilian crystals for sale.
]]>Before you look into wholesale stones, make sure your documents are in order. If you plan to resell the gemstones in any form, you might need your:
You won’t want to end up with gemstones that don’t meet your needs, so ask for dealer recommendations and check reviews before you commit to a wholesaler. You’ll want to work with a company that believes in:
You may not feel good about your purchase if you’re not sure where the gems are coming from. When possible, look for a dealer who can trace the stones’ origins. The fewer middlemen, the better. Ask if they follow environmental regulations and how they perform quality checks. It’s in their best interest to respond to you thoroughly because they’ll want to establish a long-term relationship. Don’t forget to find out about their return policy. Often, they’ll be happy to give you a refund within a specific time frame, subtracting only a restocking fee.
You probably don’t want to buy a random mix of stones, so if you need them for something specific, communicate that to your wholesaler. Tell them what size, shape, weight, and color you’re hoping for. Some requirements might increase the price, so if you can be flexible, find out if any small compromises will make a difference to the bottom line. When you order online, you’re taking a leap of faith that the quality will be high. Ask for photos of samples, and look closely to ensure the seller hasn’t manipulated them with filters.
If a dramatically low price is what’s getting your attention, be wary. When an online seller can underbid all the competition by a noticeable margin, it’s time to question the stones’ authenticity. Prices for specific gems and crystals can be unpredictable, though, so keep checking the market. If you’re confident in the wholesaler, ask about discounts for larger orders. And don’t be surprised if you have to pay half the cost at the time of the order. The dealer will likely be sourcing the gemstones just for you, so they’ll likely charge the other half of the payment when they’re ready to ship.
If you’re looking to buy Brazil crystals wholesale for the first time, working with a respected company like Brazil Gems can help you feel comfortable with the process. We can talk with you about custom projects, small quantities, and larger orders. We’d love to help you learn how to buy wholesale gemstones that will maximize your business’s profits. We can even direct ship the stones to you from Brazil. Contact us for more information.
]]>A synthetic gem is made in a laboratory, not deep inside the earth. It might be a few months old, while the real thing could have been created more than a hundred million years ago. Amazingly, an imitation gem shares nearly all the same chemical, optical, and physical characteristics of an authentic stone (sometimes with a few more compounds). If you put them next to each other, you might not be able to tell them apart. Because of this, there are stringent rules about selling them. A shop that’s trying to pass them off as real is committing fraud and won’t be in business long.
The first synthetic gemstone was fabricated in the late 1800s by a French chemist named Auguste Verneuil. The world was in awe of his technique, which involved flame fusion. But as they became more common, people produced synthetic gems for industrial applications. As for jewelry, the public insisted on the real thing. Today, people use lab-created stones in communications and laser technology, abrasives, and microelectronics.
Over the years, manufacturers have mastered a variety of methods for making lustrous, sparkling, deeply colored, and flawless stones. Depending on what you are buying the gemstone for, it might not matter to you if it’s artificial. For instance, if you’re buying beads to make inexpensive craft jewelry, you might not want to spend more on something natural—or you might find that the price isn’t all that different.
A natural gemstone was formed in the earth without human influence. People mine them from naturally occurring veins, while others are found in the water. Different gems are unique to different areas, and some countries—like Brazil—have been blessed with a rich variety of glittering, colorful stones.
The first question many customers ask is, “Has this gemstone been heat-treated?” The truth is that every gem has been treated in some way, and some have been heat-treated to bring out the natural color or improve clarity. This doesn’t make the gemstone artificial. Even cutting and polishing a gem are treatments—and believe us, you wouldn’t be too impressed with a rough diamond.
There’s only one way to ensure a gem is real or synthetic: you can study to become a licensed, certified gemologist, and then tote a 64-times-magnification microscope around with you. But that can get time-consuming, expensive, and very heavy. Instead, you can try one of these methods:
If you’re shopping online, you have the opportunity to explore the shop’s website and examine the product description for details. Of course, savvy marketing can obfuscate the truth, so pay attention to verbiage. Look for words like:
Ideally, the seller will list the origin of the gemstone or where it was mined. Of course, if you’re talking to the seller in person, there’s one reliable way to learn about a stone: ask! Most shop owners will happily tell you about their materials and products. Some stores might not advertise that they’re selling artificial gems, but will clarify when asked.
If you’re still suspicious about a gemstone, consider this: every single one is different. But mass-produced gemstones are usually identical to each other. They’re also usually flawless. But nature is never flawless, and an up-close look at the gemstone should reveal tiny specks that differ from the specks of its neighbor.
We like to use the term “inclusion” because “flaw” isn’t an appropriate word for such incredible, natural, vivid stones. Gems will have tiny foreign bodies trapped within, like gas or something like carbon. Gemologists use these to assign the stones to certain grades, but gem lovers prefer to think of them as “beauty marks.” They are characteristics that set them apart from each other and add to their natural appeal.
Again, it depends. If you’re shopping for a gemstone for an engagement ring, you might like what a natural gem embodies and how it relates to your relationship: it’s one of a kind, sparkles from within, will last for centuries, is nearly unbreakable, and so on.
Maybe you’re looking for handcrafted gifts like gemstone trees for sale. Each stone is incredible and unique on its own, but together, they add up to a shimmering homage to the variety and harmony of nature. A larger item, like a table created from an amethyst geode, would just be a gaudy novelty if it weren’t a spectacular, organic wonder.
Unless you’re a gemologist, it’s difficult to tell if a gem is natural or synthetic. The key is transparency. Not literal transparency—unless you’re pricing diamonds—but clarity and honesty from a seller you trust. When you find a shop that holds the same values you do, you can feel confident that your money is supporting a responsible business.

Over time, people have passed down tales of ancient Brazilian tribes who let their children use diamonds as playthings. But the first documented discovery of gems was in 1573—a trove of emeralds. In the 17th century, gold mines followed, and then diamonds. In fact, Brazil was the largest provider of diamonds until South Africa uncovered its legendary mines. Today the resource-rich land is host to countless Brazilian gemstones, including those below.
When you combine chalcedony and quartz, you get this stunning gemstone with a wide range of banded colors. Brazilian agate is mostly mined from decomposed volcanic ash and basalt. Because the stone is so hard, it can be used in a number of ways. And because agate has such incredible color and structure, it’s hard to decide on just one. Larger pieces of agate make for dramatic lamps, tables, and works of art.
This violet semiprecious stone was once extremely precious—as valuable as sapphires and rubies. But since a dizzying amount of amethysts resides in Brazil, the lower prices have made them accessible for more people. The distinct color is the result of iron added to its crystal structure while it’s still in the ground. In jewelry, the deepest purples with flashes of red and blue are the most expensive, but gem lovers often prefer the softer shades. Gift alert: it’s the birthstone for February.
Valued for its amber hue, this golden quartz is also reputed to attract money. Brazil is the largest source of citrines—the Serra mines of Rio Grande do Sul. These mines produce a wide range of colors from pale lemon yellow to burnt orange. They are perfect for anyone who loves the warm tones of autumn or is drawn to yellow gold. Gift alert: Citrines are a birthstone for November.
This is an umbrella term for many gemstones, and Brazil produces more than any other location. No other country can compare in terms of quality, either. Smoky, rutile, strawberry, rose—there’s quartz for everyone. Both amethysts and citrines are coveted forms of quartz, which in its most basic form is colorless. The largest quartz crystal ever found is still in Brazil, weighing almost 90,000 pounds.
What gemstones come from Brazil? You’ll find a comprehensive, genuine selection of them—along with one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces—at Brazil Gems. They’re a unique, meaningful, stylish way to enjoy these natural wonders in your own home.
]]>Almost all gems originate far inside the earth. Then they’re uncovered in a variety of ways. They’re mined, of course, but they’re also propelled close to the surface because of natural occurrences like volcanism.
Let’s say you’re looking for an amethyst crystal for sale. Amethyst is a type of quartz that’s formed when gas bubbles are trapped in lava. Crystals form inside the air cavities with the help of a silica-rich liquid. Every gemstone has an origin story like that.
Beautiful gems come from all over the world, with some countries gaining fame for specific stones. Australia is known for its multicolored, iridescent opals. Russia is one of the very few places you can find color-changing Alexandrite.
Perhaps no country is as celebrated as Brazil for its abundance of gemstones, though. Among its natural riches:
The worldwide mining industry isn’t as regulated as it should be, and that’s why it’s so important to know where gemstones come from. You need to be sure that the gemstone you’re buying is:
Brazil Gems has “Brazil” in its name because we want you to know where our gems came from. We are proud to work directly with mines that are approved by official environmental agencies. They process our products in their own facilities. It’s essential to us that our gemstones come from communities that are thriving, and that we support the area’s artisans. If you want to buy from a responsible seller, take a look at our unique geodes, sparkling gemstone trees, and exquisite tables. You can feel good about shopping with us!
]]>If you’re a fan of gemstones and crystals, you can work them into your life in a more satisfying way than wearing bracelets. Their one-of-a-kind color, characteristics, and depth are even more breathtaking on a larger scale, so don’t be afraid to display geodes on shelves or a large specimen on a stand as if it were a piece of art. You can find these examples of nature’s sparkle making up lamp bases, decorative obelisks, gemstone trees that look like bonsais, and more. Invest in an extraordinary amethyst or agate side table, and guests will find it difficult to talk about anything else.
Many of us adopted a plant at the beginning of the pandemic to give our homes a little more life. If your plant is still alive, congratulations! You’re ready for something a little more exciting. ]]>Agate, in its many shades, can offer a talisman for courage through times of sunshine and shadow. It seems to enhance feelings of security among believers in gemstone symbolism who keep it with them. If you are in a season of worry or overthinking, agate may invite healing energy to your inner world. Agate forms in the cavities of ancient volcanic rocks, where after the rock cools, microcrystal fibers collect as water pools or passes through. The layers build up over time, with different colors reflecting differences in the water’s mineral compositions. The result is a colorful reminder of the power of strength built with time.
Amethyst can offer a connection to your spirit. Thought to help strengthen your Crown or Third Eye Chakra, the presence of amethyst can offer an aura of protection and healing. Those seeking freedom from unhealthy attachments or addiction may find nourishment in its presence. If you only have space for one talisman, amethyst is an excellent choice for all-around healing and strength. The formation of amethyst is a story of icy beauty crystallizing from a legacy of fire. Basaltic lava can cool with porous cavities that can be 15-feet long. As silica-rich waters run through these cavities, traces of silica leave the seeds of crystalline growth. The water’s iron content gives amethyst its signature purple color. Placement of amethyst in your environment is an invitation to let healing energy and the timelessness of the Earth take your journey to a higher plane. Protect your amethyst stones from direct sunlight to preserve their vibrancy.
Blue quartz, a gemstone meaning peace and serenity, can be powerful in clearing the toughest energy blockages. Those with blue quartz in their home may notice an enhanced sense of peace whether awake or asleep. For those with physical blockage in the form of clutter, blue quartz may enhance your organizational skills to tackle those projects. Hindu tradition associates blue quartz with the throat chakra, and it can aid those seeking to enhance the health of their throat, heart, lungs, or eyes.
Carnelian's vibrant colors can light your inner fire. Considered by many to be helpful in restoring motivation and courage, this stone is often associated with the sacral chakra. If you need to “get your groove back,” consider inviting carnelian into your life. Those overcoming abuse may find strength and confidence with carnelian supporting them on their journey toward trusting themselves again.
Citrine can invite sunshine by connecting you with your inner fire to achieve goals, powers of creativity and optimism. Associated with the solar plexus chakra in the Hindu tradition of tantra, believers hold that this is a stone that cannot hold negative energy. Tantra practitioners believe citrine can balance and enhance positive energy. Also known as the “success stone,” it may even be a helpful totem to increase wealth. Much of the citrine in circulation today, particularly from Brazil, is amethyst that has been heated in kilns to mimic and speed up a naturally occurring process—one that natural geothermal heat hadn't yet had its chance to do. This heat gives these gemstones their beautiful range of amber colors. The heating process does not alter the molecular structure of the stone nor the gemstone’s meaning.
