Brazil Gems® Jewelry Quality & Care
Gold Plated Semi-Fine Jewelry
The process to make quality semi-fine jewelry is very extensive. Our gold plated pieces go through a 7-Step Electroplating process where they receive between 1.27 to 3.8 microns of gold, thus providing greater quality and durability.
Below you can learn the steps used in the Electroplating process:
- Base Metal: Copper/Zinc
- Electrolytic Copper plating
- Phosphoric Copper plating
- Palladium plating
- 24k Pre-Gold plated
- 18k Gold plated
- 22k Gold plated
No niquel is used in the materials to reduce allergic reactions to the pieces.
Sterling Silver 925
925 Silver means that 92.5% of the metal used in the piece is pure Silver and the other 7.5% is composed of quality alloys that guarantee that the jewelry you are purchasing is a quality piece and that it will last a long time.
How to care and clean your Jewelry
We know your jewelry is more than just an accessory; it's a reflection of your style and personality. To ensure your semi-fine and fine jewelry retains its beauty for years to come, we've created this guide with simple tips to help you maintain and protect your pieces.
Caring for Semi-Fine 18K Gold Plated Jewelry
1. Keep It Dry
Water, especially from swimming pools and saltwater, can wear down gold plating over time. Make sure to remove your gold-plated jewelry before swimming, showering, or exercising.
2. Store It Properly
When not wearing your jewelry, store each piece in a soft pouch or a separate compartment of your jewelry box. This prevents scratching and keeps the gold plating from rubbing off.
3. Clean Gently
To clean your 18k gold plated jewelry, use a soft, lint-free cloth or a jewelry polishing cloth to wipe away fingerprints and dirt. If needed, dampen the cloth slightly with water, but avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaners, as they may damage the plating.
Caring for Sterling Silver Jewelry
1. Prevent Tarnishing
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time, but you can slow down the process. Store your sterling silver pieces in a cool, dry place, ideally in an anti-tarnish pouch or bag. Keep your jewelry away from chemicals like perfume, lotions, and household cleaning products, as they can accelerate tarnishing.
2. Wear It Often
Believe it or not, wearing your silver jewelry helps keep it shiny! Natural oils from your skin can help protect against tarnish, so don’t hesitate to wear your favorite pieces regularly.
3. Clean Regularly
To clean sterling silver jewelry, use a soft cloth or a silver polishing cloth. If deeper cleaning is needed, mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water and gently scrub with a soft toothbrush. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly before storing.
Caring for Natural Gemstones
1. Protect from Impact
Gemstones like amethyst, topaz, and others used in your jewelry can be durable, but they are not indestructible. Avoid banging them against hard surfaces to prevent chips or cracks.
2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Keep your gemstone jewelry away from extreme temperatures or sudden temperature changes. Prolonged exposure to heat or cold can damage the stones or affect their color and clarity.
3. Gentle Cleaning
To clean gemstone jewelry, use a soft cloth to gently wipe the surface. For a deeper clean, use a mild soap solution and a soft brush. Always rinse thoroughly and dry completely before storing. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, as they may cause damage to certain gemstones.
By following these simple steps, you’ll keep your jewelry sparkling and well-preserved for many years to come!
